This happens in CakePHP 2.3.

If you define a beforeFilter() method in any of your controllers and call

public function beforeFilter(){
    parent::beforeFilter();
    .... //Other controller code here
}

CakePHP calls your controller beforeFilter() which already contains a call
to parent::beforeFilter() and then calls the AppController's beforeFilter()
again.

Most times my controller contains component settings that are defined in
the AppController beforeFilter() method. It is important that these
settings be defined before my controller methods are called. This can only
be achieved by ensuring the parent::beforeFilter() call is made in my
controller's beforeFilter() method.
