First of all, this isn't really a CakePHP question, is it? You might get better help at http://www.apachefriends.org/f/search.php?keywords=xdebug
That said... I have been using Xdebug on Windows machines for years as part of my Netbeans IDE. I have it configured on both XP and Win 7 boxes. >From my XP box (32-bit, Apache/2.2.21 (Win32), PHP/5.2.17), here is the pertinent part of my php.ini file: zend_extension_ts="C:/Program Files/PHP/ext/php_xdebug-2.1.0-5.2-vc6.dll" xdebug.remote_enable=on xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_host=localhost xdebug.remote_port=9000 (Note: the _ts at the end of the zend_extension directive means Thread Safe. I think newer versions of PHP don't use this any more) On my Win 7 x64 box I have Apache 2.2.24 Win 32 VC 9 (notice 32-bit and make sure you have the right VC redistribute package). My PHP package is php-5.3.26-Win32-VC9-x86. My Xdebug is php_xdebug-2.2.3-5.3-vc9.dll And in my php.ini file I have: ; Xdebug Settings zend_extension="C:\PHP\ext\php_xdebug-2.2.3-5.3-vc9.dll" xdebug.remote_enable=on xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_host=localhost xdebug.remote_port=9000 As someone else pointed out, after making changes to your php.ini file be sure to restart Apache. It works great within the Netbeans IDE.
