i have similar issue.here is my code:
$this->element('app_images', array(), array('cache' => array('config' 
=> 'default', 'key' => 'unique')));

my cache named: cake_element_unique

i have tried below methods but none of them work.

Cache::delete('unique','default');
Cache::delete('element_unique','default');
Cache::delete('cake_element_unique','default');
