Are you encrypting the password when you save the users?
if not try to add this to your user's model:
public function beforeSave($options = array()) {
if (isset($this->data[$this->alias]['password'])) {
$this->data[$this->alias]['password'] =
AuthComponent::password($this->data[$this->alias]['password']);
}
return true;
}
