That could also be from PHP itself. I believe there is a magic_quotes option that can be turned off or on that automagically escapes form-submitted data. Personally, I prefer to turn that off to (a) have better control of the filtering of incoming data and (b) avoid any nasty surprises involving the data when it comes in.
