That is a lot of money! I guess you are hosting plenty sites in that server.
You can compare with DigitalOcean, for example, you get a very decent server for 160$ a year. https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/ It requires a bit of server management knowledge, though. That is what you are paying for in hostgator.
