Hey Michael, I think FormHelper is an excellent practical example of the issues you raise. It has several methods that generate quite a bit automatically, absent some additional configuration. But these methods are high-level wrappers for the base FormHelper methods which, for the most part, only do what you tell them, so the ability to be explicit is never really taken away.
