The above are all good ideas. Once you've done them, I suggest taking
one of the fuller projects on cakeForge, and trying to learn by making
modifications to it. Those are real projects which tackle many of the
real issues you will come across. Since they have already figured out
how to best do things, you will learn alot from them.

I used BakeSale for this and found it helped alot. I chose bakesale
because it was similiar to something I needed to build anyways.

There are other excellent projects there as well. CheeseCake Photoblog
and rdOpenSource stand out in my mind as being exceptional. I couldn't
get OceanCMS to work well, but admittedly didn't try very hard, and it
was one of the first things I did with cake. I suppose I could
probably figure out what to change to get it working now.

Cake has to be one of the best supported, easiest frameworks around...
but it's precisely because it does alot for you, that there is a lot
to learn. The manual is good, but this forum is a necessary
supplement, because the manual doesn't tell you everything. It is
quite good though.

As you can see from the number of replies you've received, the forum
is very supportive.

Jump in. If you are willing to put in a bit of time, you won't regret
it. I am very happy to have chosen cake.
