Akismet works best to filter received SPAM, you can try to use it to
filter messages before you send them. However do note that Akismet
perse will not send the mails for you.

There are PHP4 and PHP5 classes at Akismet site which you can just
drop in the vendors folder and use it directly (simplest) or you can
create a component to warp it.

I have used it as a plugin in Cheesecake to filter comments, Felix
uses it as a Model
