I'd suggest taking a look at cachegrind / valgrind / kcachegrind as a
tool for profiling and analyzing the performance of CakePHP.  Rasmus
Lerdorf has given many a talk at PHP conferences about how to use it.
Go to talks.php.net and look for his various talks on the topic.
