You can use it via the team-functionality. so if you select synchronisation for you project you can select webdav, cvs and ftp (and some more if you installed the plugins). choosing ftp will let you 1. let you synchronise your files with your server and 2. simulate something like versioning by showing if something on the server or your computer is different from the other location. by selecting the synchronisation view in the team foler you can integrate it into your perspective.
