Thanks for the reply iwmaclagan.  The redirects were within the same
controller and domain so not having a problem there.

Sessions are working now!  I upgraded to the latest stable version
(1.1.15.5144) this morning and tried a differnet tutorial with some
var_dumps and got it working.  Wish I could say what was causing the
problem but can't really say.
