Hmm - Now I get the same thing, but the images are readable from my website, it's only when I view them in Gnome that I can't see the uploaded image, but can see the thumbnails.
I think it's due to the permissions with the www-data user, which means apache should have no problem reading them. If you want to view the files you should add yourself to the group.
