I have almost finished the humongous symfony manual.
Yes, they definitely complicate stuff.
That is why my current choice is symfony, because it teaches me so
many best-practises in php programming.

Learning curve indeed is very steep, and documentation great (except
install documentation, spread out in a dozen different places :S)
I personally didn't ever use the command line interface or YAML and
could barely remember the last time I installed php.
Never needed these things, but it seems to be worth it so far.

My best experience was writing:
fillin:
  enabled: true

Made my times of allowing firms to be refilled on error seem so
silly :)

Popularity is a good measure of a frameworks abilities, because
without large scale adaptation, the framework becomes useless when you
want to outsource or collaborate with others.
