Also, consider that using jake, you get the best of both worlds, and you can easily create layouts that fit in directly with your current template, no changes needed!
We have an existing joomla based website that needing some extra functions, which I had written in cake, and until I discovered jake, I was using the cake apps from within an iframe - which as you can imagine was poor compared to actually having the cake app embedded directly into the joomla page. Also, this gives cake access to all your joomla "stuff".
