Would symlinks (maybe over sshfs / nfs / smb for files located on different servers) do the trick for you? Of course, what _should_ be done, instead of sharing model files, would be implementing web-services (REST?) in a SOA fashion (service bus, etc.) to expose the shared functionality _needed_, instead of exposing the whole thing to the world... Even a DataSource for web-services (REST, SOAP, etc.) could be used (don't know if it exists already integrated inCakePHP). But of course, that could be overkill, and YMMV. Maybe I'm just way off-topic from what you asked.
