I'm thinking that if there was really a bug with CakePHP this severe, other people would've reported it. Perhaps I have missed those anguished pleas for help on the mailing list. If you're getting the code itself being displayed in the browser, then your web server is not properly configured for serving up PHP pages. I know this is hard for some people to accept, but when there is a problem with a Cake application it is not always Cake's fault.
