Hey, start here[1] if you haven't worked wit sphinx. Refreshing the index will be cron job so it probably doesn't make much sense in making a console task for it. As for the actual searching - the sphinx api is very simple. If you want to have some fun - make it a datasource - in the old days i used it in a model.
