Looks like a documentation bug, you need to get the inserted ID before you can save the related data, so the code really should be:
$this->data['Profile']['user_id'] = $user['User']['id']; Alternatively, you could use: $this->data['Profile']['user_id'] = $this->User->getLastInsertId(); Which is the way I usually do this.
