Thanks for the link but it doesn't explain what I'm looking for, which
is the DB table schema. I'm familiar with MPTT (and have used it
before) but Cake's parent_id has me confused.

But I thought to look at db_acl.sql, which shows parent_id DEFAULT
NULL so I'll go with that.
