Well, it's a matter of preference. They're images that are only loaded
through CSS so they're style-specific. I find that's a lot cleaner
than filling up my regular images dir with backgrounds, buttons, etc.
This makes creating themes that much simpler.

And given the spec says that a relative path is to be parsed as
relative to the stylesheet, I'd say that this is precisely what the
CSS working group had in mind.
