I'm developing a 3-tier inventory system, and wondering what's the best way to store the images for them.
Composites hasandbelongstomany Inventory Inventory hasandbelongstomany Ingredients And Composites,Inventory, and Ingredients hasmany images associated with each. I'm a noob, so I'm asking for input on the best way to store large amounts of images like this. Simplest answer is on the server directory structure, but if so how do I (or should I) separate them into a directory structure like /webroot/ img/Ingredients/*.bmp, /webroot/img/Inventory/*.bmp, etc. Is it better to possibly use blobs? I've hated blobs in the past, and typically is my last resort, but am open to advise. Lastly, is there a good plugin out there for converting uploaded images into a standardized format? If so, what's the standard? Are Jpgs still the most efficient for storage? Any best practices/advise concerning this topic would be greatly appreciated, I've never developed a 'gallery' type application before and any links to guides/howtos/comparisons would be a life saver.
