You can increase the memory limit in a per action basis using the following
function:

ini_set('memory_limit', '*256M*');

This can be in your action function, so the memory limit is set just in the
functions that require this increase memory usage and let as default all
other actions.

For example I have an _export() function in my app_controller that allow me
to export the result of a find() to an Excel file, and in this case I set
the memory limit just before creating the Excel class. I works well. Of
course the value (256M in the example)  is up to You, check the PHP
documentation for the memory_limit setting.
