I'm passing variables into my main layout in the beforeFilter() method using $this->set in my main app_controller,
However, if someone visits a broken URL (where you would get a "missing controller|action|view" message, the beforeFilter doesn't run so bits of the layout are functioning correctly. In debug mode the errors are that the vars are not defined. What can I do about this? Is there a better way for cakephp to handle errors or do I need to pass the data to the layout in another way?
