Well... oddly enough, yes, running "cake", it says 1.3.0.0 ... but I've now installed and learned the basics of Git and the fresh copy of Cake I'm using now is working great.
...I wonder how many of the crazy, things-just-aren't-just-working problems I've been having the past few weeks can be traced to this. Maybe I'm really awesome at Cake after all. I certainly downloaded that previous version from the link at http://cakephp.org/ ... but it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. I'm not positive what I'd be ticketing... I'm not even ready to say that there wasn't just some ridiculous user error. But if there's something I can do to help the cause, let me know. Thanks everybody!
