You have two options as far as I know: One is the gather the select values in the controller action and pass them on to the view using the controllers set method See http://book.cakephp.org/view/57/Controller-Methods#set-427
Two is to gather the select values from within the view using the requestAction to invoke a controller action which gathers and returns the select values.
