Ok, that did indeed point me in the right direction thanks!

I was using Router::parseExtensions('xml'); in my routes.php which
wasn't working so i changed that to Router::parseExtensions(); and now
it works like a charm.

Does not seem very intuitive to me though, but i guess that behavior
is intended?
