Excellent point!
Open source does just that. Allows everyone to pick apart the code looking for things someone may have missed or not thought of in regards to security and exploits to make something good even better J Or simply grow upon someones idea to make a process easier for everyone. For example, a large tool or fw as cake, will be famous and also many people know security problems and how to attack, but there are a comunity behind working for you. Having your own, maybe is your own security risks and techniques, no one knows risks, neither you. When some one attacks you, maybe, you dont get noticed on that, then you must analize On other side, what do you want, have a custom tool performed for you, maybe codeigniter could be a good tool, small, simple and you can customize your tools. Something built to start working, then synfony and cakephp. There area many issues to study at the moment to choice the right tool for you, and cake has the support, has the maturity for been good for any kind of app, I think so. Then the question for choising the tool would be other, then, Does cake fill your app?
