German Raw Apple Cake 
Circa 1909. from Joanie

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
4 cups thinly sliced, peeled tart apples
2 TB baking soda
1/2 cup melted butter of vegetable oil
2 beaten eggs
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries 

Mix all ingredients. The batter should be very thick. 

Pour into a 9" x 13" baking pan that has been greased and floured.*

Bake in a preheated 350ยบ F., oven  for 35 minutes. 

Frost with cream cheese icing, if desired.

Yield: 12 servings.

*Joanie's Note:  I prefer to sugar the pan instead of using flour.
