Subject: Man's Favorite Cake Recipe
My mother has searched for this recipe for years. she said her Aunt use to make
it.
she said it has raisins, cinnamon or other spices. It has an orange flavor,
possibly
in the icing. She at this as a child, she is 70 years old now. She thinks it
may have
come out of a paper or magazine at that time. I have googled the recipe, but no
luck.

Hello Charlotte,
All of the cake recipes that I can find with that name and with raisins
and cinnamon are like the one below. I did not find any that had any
orange in either the cake or the frosting.
Phaed
A MAN'S FAVORITE CAKE
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 c. seedless raisins
1 c. applesauce (sweetened for table use)
1 tsp. soda
1 egg
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. hot water
Blend shortening, sugar, and eggs thoroughly in 1 operation. Add raisins and
applesauce.
Sift spices and salt with flour and add in several portions. Before the last of
the flour
is added, stir in the soda dissolved in hot water. Beat well, pour into a
greased loaf or
tube pan and bake about 1 hour at 350 degrees.
COFFEE CREAM ICING:
4 tbsp. butter or margarine
1/4 tsp. salt
3 or 4 tbsp. hot coffee
2 tbsp. cocoa
2 c. powdered sugar
Blend butter, salt, cocoa and 1/2 cup sugar. Add alternately coffee and rest
of sugar until
a spreading consistency is reached.
A reader sent this suggestion:
I wonder if Charlotte might be looking forOrange Kiss-Me Cake.

This was the 1950 Pillsbury Bake-Off winner, so it fits the time frame given by
her mom,
probably was printed in a magazine, and it has orange, cinnamon, and raisins.
Just a thought.
Have a great day!
Missy
