        Description

This cake, from a family friend, was made with oleo- a.k.a. margarine
-but I've replaced it with real butter. This is absolutely sinful and a
must try for anyone who loves rich cake.

      Ingredients

1 cup butter </topic/butter/>
4 large eggs </topic/large+eggs/>
1 teaspoon salt </topic/salt/>
1/2 teaspoon baking soda </topic/baking+soda/>
2 teaspoons vanilla extract </topic/vanilla+extract/>
2 cups granulated sugar </topic/granulated+sugar/>
3 cups all-purpose flour </topic/all-purpose+flour/>
1 teaspoon baking powder </topic/baking+powder/>
1 cup buttermilk </topic/buttermilk/>

      Preparation

Cream 1 cup butter. Gradually add 2 cups sugar. Blend in 4 eggs, one at
a time. Combine 3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder
and 1/2 teaspoon soda. Combine 1 cup buttermilk with 2 teaspoons
vanilla. Add milk and flour mixtures alternately to creamed mixture,
ending with dry mixture. Mix well. Turn into greased 10 inch tube pan.
Bake at 325° for 60 to 65 minutes.

Butter
sauce:

1 c. sugar
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. oleo

Combine in saucepan. Heat until butter melts; add 1 tablespoon vanilla.
Poke holes into top of cake with fork. Pour sauce slowly over cake while
cake is in pan. Cool before removing from pan.
