After taking some time off.. and... after a few bug fixes (of problems introduced by me, sorry all), and much panic'd exploration of gcc 7.3 retpolines and spectre/meltdown later... it looks like we could, indeed, try to get cake upstream again after net-next reopens in 2-3 weeks.
