I found some problem with sendfd.c some time ago. [1]
For what it's worth, this issue was fixed a while ago. (Sorry for the
slow reply; was on vacation when this arrived.)

Just had the feel that sendfd under freebsd could be the problem, as
python parts normally should work the same. Sure making sure that the
correct versions of thouse packages are used are also important..
