If you don't need to upgrade from an ancient version, you can probably just
comment out the appropriate bits in support/build.sh:

With 4.2 this seems not to be the whole truth.
CalendarServer still requires the directory containing the
.calendarserver_version file to support xattr.
Though it doesn't use them for anything. It just does an xattr operation
on all files it finds there.
