The Apache Cordova project is responsible for creating and maintaining a
suite of libraries and tools for building mobile applications using an embedded
webview for presentation and pluggable interface to the underlying operating
system.

+ Cordova provides a simple foreign function interface that enables JavaScript
to call native code, and vice versa. In addition to the bridge Cordova provides
a core set of Device APIs that are common across supported platforms. The APIs
available to the webview adhere, as much as possible, to web standards to
enable code portability to web browsers.
+
+ Apache Cordova primary goal is to cease to exist. We are providing a
reference implementation for future web browsers, and a transition path
protecting app developers from vendor lock-in to singular operating systems.
+
+ Our secondary goal is to the web as a first class development platform. The
web sandbox restrictions do not allow system level capabilities making it
unsuited for many types of applications. Cordova also provides tooling for
common workflows, making app development faster, and generally a more pleasant
experience.
