Michael Brooks commented on CB-677:
-----------------------------------

This is an extremely broad topic.

I agree, there is plenty of improvement to be done on the _Getting Started_
guides. I like the idea of _"next steps."_ For sometime, I've been wanting to
move towards a series format, where each guide offers the _"next step."_ I
think the [Slicehost articles|http://articles.slicehost.com] has nailed this
down.

The _"what next"_ content is a touchy subject.

Apache Cordova *enables* mobile web apps to be first-class apps, but we *don't
dictate* how to write the app. There's a large, strong, and friendly mobile web
community that we can tap into, so we shouldn't burden ourselves with excess
work. I do think there is room for Apache Cordova distributions (e.g. PhoneGap)
to create an article database on tightly integrating Apache Cordova with
existing mobile libraries / best practices.

So in summary, I think we should document Apache Cordova features but hand app
development off to the mobile web community and Apache Cordova distributions.
Perhaps we could have a guide on _"App Development Resources"_ that links to
high quality resources?

> I have gotten a lot of feedback from Adobe customers and developers at
> conferences on this... In general, the getting started guides are great at
> getting people's environments configured, but many end up wondering "what do
> I do next". It would be great to have docs/guidance on "next steps",
> including strategies to make your apps feel more like "apps" and less like
> "the web", performance optimizations, and possibly case studies on how
> showcase apps were created. This JIRA issue is intended for tracking
> purposes.
