Our homebrew Media API is likely getting scrapped after 2.0 right? If so refactoring it is not worth it. IMO focus on plugins, revisit Media post-2.0 and polyfill a different API that is at least partly supported in the wild (W3C <audio> now that it's in iOS 6, for example).
