On two occasions we have taken a bunch of cardboard boxes, unfolded them, and 
duct-taped them together on the grass.
It worked really well, lasted for the weekend.

It didn't look great; and it was a good hour or two of work with 3-4 people.

But it certainly was great to dance on!
