I asked Dr. John Ramsay, who I believe originally commissioned the piece from Pat Shaw, what tempo he likes. Here is his answer:
"Back in 1976 we recorded Levi Jackson Rag at 130 bpm. It is a zippy tune and dance. Of course, the tempo can be adjusted to the needs of the dancers." Zippy, indeed!
