Erik - we had a discussion a while back about whether ONS was a little rude (Slam Bam ThankYou Ma'am) or actually rather nice, as it came out of the theater biz (This is the only night we're playing in ________, so we'd better make it good.)
I was of the "it's rude" school, but have since reconsidered and am okay with the "let's make this one good" school. (Thanks to Alan.) And further - it means a dance that you call for folks who don't dance very often, so you call much simpler dances, like at a wedding or birthday party.
