For English dancing, a crowded hall is even more of a concern, since so much of English is "expansive" where contra is "compact." A CDSS booklet "Dances for a Crowded Hall," (cdss.org, $5) contains many good ideas which might interest people on this list as well. The booklet is basically a discussion among Michael Ciccone, Mary Devlin, Barbara Finney, Brad Foster, Scott Higgs and Alan Winston, all extremely fine callers. It does contain a list of suitable dances.
A similar booklet or website page would be great to have for contra! M E
