You really want to strive for 16th and 17th century customs? Ditch your computer, car, and comforts of home. Get a horse, one or two changes of clothes and hit the road. Don't forget to keep your Nosegay flowers handy. People rarely bathed, plumbing was non-existant and clothing was seldom washed.
