Jerome makes a great point here about the "Mute" capability, that's the easiest solution for a given thread within GMail.
This might get you poking about and noticing there is also a "Block" option for a sender - I urge caution with that one. Because SharedWeight rewrites the sender address to the list's address when it forwards on posts, you may end up blocking *all* list posts with that function even though it appears you are blocking just one sender (e.g.: Don Veino via Callers). You can screen out a particular sender through Gmail's filter settings, but it is more complicated and requires manual editing of the filter.
