Background: For quite sometime I have been running a v1.2 Asterisk built from sources on a Mac Mini for a SOHO installation. Why Mac Mini? Because it was already there running 24x7. Why v1.2? Because that was current when the system was setup and migration to v1.4 builds was aborted when I found they failed terribly after one or two calls on the Mac. Time to move on and put the telephone system into its own box.

My SOHO application is pure SIP running g711 (no transcoding) with maximum number of simultaneous calls never exceeding 4.

There is mention of Soekris under "other platform support" on http://www.callweaver.org/wiki/Cross-platform and of the net4801 at http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/CallWeaver but I have been unable to find more details, instructions or description.

1) Is there a pre-packaged build of Callweaver like AstLinux available for the Soekris platform?

2) Assuming answer to 1) is no, is there a cookbook for building an embedded system (no hard disk drive) with Callweaver?

3) Given the stated load, should I be worried that a net4801 or net5501 will be insufficient for the task?

3) Ideally this box will run 24x7 indefinitely, what experiences have list users had with Soekris hardware reliability?

4) Soekris has listed the net4801 as "end of life", what experience has there been with the net5501?

Thanks,
Tod Fitch
