Cambodia plans to build a Berlin-style wall to shut off Thailand and develop
tourist facilities around the still disputed Preah Vihear temple, a senior
official said on Sunday.
The Cambodian government will build a series of walls at "complicated border
areas," while still calling for talks to mark and properly demarcate the
frontier, Khieu Kanharith, Information Minister and government spokesman, told
reporters at a press conference.
Both sides should start to discuss to plant border markers from undisputed
border areas to the complicated border areas and some complicated border areas
will be built with border markers or concrete walls, Khieu Kanharith said
Cambodia will allow private companies to invest at least $2 million dollars at
the Preah Vihear Temple to set up cable cars for tourists, he said, adding that
the government is also trying to build a road to the temple.
The Preah Vihear border gate to Thailand will be open when the situation there
is stable, he said, adding that foreign tourists could visit the temple from
the Cambodian side.
At the moment, authorities have closed the temple grounds to visitors. For
decades, the only way to get to Preah Vihear was through Thailand, because the
temple is situated atop a sharp cliff on the Cambodian side.
Cambodia and Thailand share a border of over 800km with only 73 demarcation
markers, the Cambodian official said on Sunday.
At a meeting on Aug 18-19, Cambodian and Thai foreign ministers agreed to
arrange a second-phase troop redeployment at the disputed border area near the
temple.
They agreed to a meeting of the Cambodian Temporary Coordinating Task Force and
the Thai Regional Border Committee on Aug 29 in Cambodia to discuss the troop
redeployment.
The two foreign ministers also agreed to recommend to their governments that
the next meeting of legal experts and the Thai-Cambodian Joint Border Committee
be convened in early October, to discuss the issues related to border survey
and demarcation of the relevant frontier sectors.
On July 15, Thai troops went into the border area to fetch three trespassers
who had intended to claim Thai sovereignty over the Preah Vihear Temple. The
incident triggered a military standoff, as troop strength on each side grew to
more than 1,000 soldiers.
In 1962, the International Court of Justice (World Court) decided that the
11-century temple belongs to Cambodia.

Subject: CHINA SCORED ZERO vs Cambodia RE: The world's most dominant sporting
nations.

CHINA SCORED ZERO vis a vis Cambodia and the Cambodian people.

CHINA had bribed King Sihanouk for a small prize, ONE HOUSE IN BEIJING, FREE
HEALTH/WEALTH /CARE IN CHINA  through PM Chou Enlai /Mao Tse Toung at Bandoeung
in April 1955  in exchange for the Khmer leader to adopt an ANTI AMERICA
POSITION and abandon the Neutrality of Cambodia in order to allow and support
the North Vietnamese troops and VC on th soil of Cambodia  in their struggle in
the war in vietnam.

CHINA has abandoned King Sihanouk  in 1969-1970's  and steered the China
direction to warm the relations with America Chou Enlai-Kissinger 1969-1970's ,
the same Chou Enlai who pushed Sihanouk to be anti america....?

AFTER VIETNAM HAD INVADED CAMBODIA AND OCCUPIED IT , China had sent Sihanouk to
the UN in order to demand the Vietnamese troops withdrawal .
10 UN resolutions calling Vietnam to cease her occupation and remove all her
troops from Cambodia are not respected by Vietnam from 1978-2007.

Now China is supporting Vietnam 's occupation of Cambodia while King Sihanouk
is enjoying his welfare and health care in China ?

Where is the Chinese promises of Cambodia Independence from Vietnam and the
guarantee of territorial integrity ?

As a power today, and as the UN Council security permanent member,  China needs
to respect the UN CHARTER  ,needs to correct this errors, and adjust this
problems  vis a vis the 10 UN resolutions calling Vietnam to quit and cease her
occupation of Cambodia .Because China was among the 116 countries that had
voted for Vietnam to cease her occupation of Cambodia.

This China's NPC delegation coming to meet with Cambodia's Senate and National
Assembly presidents etc... is in contradiction with the 10 UN RESOLUTIONS
related to the condemnation of Vietnam occupation of Cambodia and an INSULT TO
THE SPIRITS OF PM DEPUTY TENG TSAO PING  punishment of Vietnam for this crime
.( China brief invasion of Vietnam in February 1979 )

I stronly hope that China will correct her mistakes and adjust her foreign
policy  in compliance to the UN CHARTER  and the 10 UN resolutions on Cambodia
as well .....

Olympics: China achieves what it set out to do -- easily AFP - August 24, 2008,
7:04 pm
China came into the Beijing Olympics with a steely determination to be crowned
the world's most dominant sporting nation, and it achieved what it planned with
ease.
Nothing less than being the best on home soil would satisfy nationalistic
pride, and the years of training and vast sums of money pumped into creating
elite sportsmen paid dividends.
Chinese strict sports coaches are famous for stressing the importance of
obedience, orderliness, respect and placing the needs of the team and country
ahead of any personal desires.
But the hiring of up to 40 foreign coaches in the lead up to Beijing brought a
new, more relaxed, approach, which paid off.
In the end China finished with 51 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze to the United
States' 36-38-26, although they ended behind their arch-rivals 110-100 on the
overall medal tally..
The gold rush earned the hosts' the distinction of becoming only the third
country after the United States and the Soviet Union to top the gold medal
table since World War II.
What was particularly significant were the medals won in sports in which they
are not traditionally strong -- archery, fencing, yachting, boxing, beach
volleyball and even swimming.
More predictable was their domination of diving, table tennis, badminton, and
weightlifting.
The cards were on the table when weightlifter Chen Xiexia won their first gold
of the Games way back on August 9, setting two new Olympic records on her way
to the women's 48-kilogramme class title.
Endorsements and sponsorships are expected to make her a millionaire, to the
chagrin of shooter Du Li who was expected to claim the mantle but caved in
under the pressure.
Two years ago the Chinese government was so worried about the potential for
crowd trouble tarnishing the Games that it launched a crash course in sports
etiquette, or how to behave at Olympic events.
It was largely successful and the Chinese fans created an electric atmosphere,
spurring their athletes to new feats.
With the early smog and pollution that blighted the Games gradually clearing,
the home nation raked up gold medals with a vengeance.
"The achievements we have made in this Olympic Games are a very imporant
driving force for the future," said Chinese Sports Minister Liu Peng.
"But we have to be modest, and sober-minded and we have to face the
difficulties and challenges in the process of future development.
"We are still lagging behind in many events or disciplines. In terms of medal
count and in terms of the number of athletes who ranked in the first eight, we
are still lagging behind compared with many developed countries."
Michael Phelps might have stolen the headlines in the pool, but China also made
waves.
Zhang Lin stormed to the 400m freestyle silver medal while Liu Zige and Jiao
Liuyang produced stunning swims to win gold and silver in the women's 200
metres butterfly, with Liu setting a new world record.
China's weightlifters were running hot with the hosts winning four men's and
four women's titles.
The competition produced nine world records, three of them set by Chinese woman
lifter Liu Chunhong (69kg).
Veteran Zhang Ning upset world number Xie Xingfang to successfully defend her
women's badminton title, breaking down in tears afterwards, while Lin Dan won
the men's title, proclaiming himself "an outstanding sportsman".
China muscled aside the competition to proclaim itself the new gymnastics world
superpower, although the event was overshadowed by suspicions that some Chinese
competitors were younger than the required 16 years old.
They snared nine of the 14 gold on offer, second only to the USSR's 10 in Seoul
in 1988.
Then came the shock pictures of national hero Liu Xiang pulling out of the 110m
hurdles heats with a foot injury, prompting an outpouring of remorse as one of
the faces of the Games failed to deliver.
But the Olympics moved on and so did China, although it saw little success on
the track and field. Its consolation was that neither did the United States in
one of its worst performances in years.
Ma Lin won the men's table tennis gold medal and Zhang Yining won the women's
as China's paddlers cleaned up. Their invincible divers did the same,
collecting seven of the eight titles on offer.
