China will continue to follow the path of peaceful development after the
Beijing Olympics, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said on Tuesday.
He said China remains a developing country and seeking development
continues to be a long-term and arduous task for China.
Qin attributed the success of the Beijing Olympic Games to the leadership
of the Chinese government, the support of Chinese people, the concerted efforts
of the international community and the international Olympic family as well as
the outstanding performance of the athletes from various countries and regions.
The athletes, bearing in mind the motto "swifter, higher, stronger", have
competed strongly and fairly and dared to challenge themselves, displaying
strong competitiveness and sportsmanship, said Qin.
"No matter whether they won medals, they made great contributions to the
promotion of the Olympic spirit and the Olympic Games," said Qin.
The success of the Games has enhanced the friendship and cooperation
between China and the world, and also helped the world better understand China,
he said at a regular press conference.
He also stressed that China would continue following the path of peaceful
development, carrying out the policy of opening to the outside world for mutual
benefits and win-win results.
"China is ready to work with the rest of the world to continue contributing
to world peace, stability and common development, and to promote exchanges and
cooperation with other countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and
mutual benefit," said Qin.
