The Thai are more superstitious than the Khmer in some way. Since killing
the first Taksin to usurp the throne himself, all th Chakri king seemed to
dislike anyone by the name T(h)aksin. According to astrologer it was said
that the Chakri dynasty would last only 200 years. So prior to 1982 it was
an emotional time leading to the bi-centenary. People were waiting to see
anything would happen to the monarchy that year but the time had passed
without any incident, probably to a great relief to the king.

That's why I say anyone linked to the name T(h)aksin will not last long
because the Thai king perceives it as threat to his throne. Other
descendents of King Taksin, although related by blood to Chakri I, ( he was
a father- in- law of King Taksin, though) , were put to death. The current
Chakri King in the same way as his ancestors never feels comfortable with
any Taksin sounding names in politics. The new PM won't last long. That is
is my feeling.
