MAN ATTEMPTS TO RAPE WOMAN,  78
Yos Phy, 42, widower and father of three, was arrested  after he attempted to 
rape Sar Yaing, a 78-year-old homeless woman, in  Sampong Chey commune, 
Cheong Prey district, Kampong Cham at 10pm Thursday.  Heng Vuthy, chief of 
Cheong 
Prey district police, said that Yos Phy  seriously injured the woman, who was 
sleeping at a public rest hall, by  striking her on the head because he got 
angry when she tried to fight him  off. The suspect denied that he tried to 
rape 
the woman but also said that  he was drunk at the time.

TWO NECKLACE THIEVES  ARRESTED
Chan Syha, 21, a security guard at Garuda Security  Services, and his friend 
Uk Kosal, 20, were arrested by Duan Penh district  police after their 
motorbike crashed following an unsuccessful robbery  attempt in the Duan Penh 
district of Phnom Penh on Wednesday. Victim Leng  Kim Ang, 32, said that the 
two men lost their balance and fell off their  motorbike after they snatched 
her necklace while she was a pillion  passenger on her husband's motorbike. The 
police said that the thieves  managed to dispose of the necklace before they 
were arrested, adding that  it was taken by an onlooker.

MAN RAPES HIS DAUGHTER, 16
Men  Chun, 44, was arrested on the charge of raping his 16-year-old daughter 
in  Koh Touch commune, Kampot district, Kampot province Tuesday. The girl told 
 the police that her father threatened her by putting an ax to her head and  
raped her while the family were in the forest collecting wood at the foot  of 
Bokor Mountain on September 17. The girl told the neighbours about what  
happened and after the family returned to their village they alerted the  
police.

TWO WOUNDED IN CROSS FIRE 
A  group of thieves, armed with rifles and pistols, were involved in a shoot  
out with the Sre Ambel district police after they robbed four jewellery  
shops at Sre Ambel market in Sri Ambel district of Koh Kong at midday  Friday. 
The 
police said that the shoot out occurred when they chased the  thieves who 
fled the scene of the robbery in a Toyota Camry. A police  officer and 
jewellery 
vendor were wounded in cross fire. While the police  failed to apprehend the 
perpetrators who escaped into the local forest,  they confiscated their 
abandoned blood-stained Camry and suspect that one  or more of the perpetrators 
had 
been wounded.
