Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Hor Namhong, Minister of Foreign
Affairs and International Cooperation tells national and international
reporters following his meeting with foreign diplomatic corps in Phnom Penh on
October 15 over the armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai troops at three
locations inside Cambodian territory, namely at the Keo Sikha Kiri Svara pagoda
near the Preah Vihear Temple, approximately 700 meters from the borderline with
Thailand, Veal Entry or "Eagle Field", some 1,120 meters from the borderline
and Phnom Troap, roughly 1,600 meters from the borderline.
The fighting was erupted at 2:15 pm local time when Thai troops started
first to open fire to Cambodian troops, who were on patrolling and killed two
Cambodian soldiers and wounded two. However, Foreign Minister Hor Namhong
called the clashes a small-scale armed clashes' incidents not war, adding that
Cambodia remained committed to resolve the disputed-border problem peacefully
with Thailand, but he further said he wonders that Thai Prime Minister as well
as Thai Foreign Minister always said they want to resolve the problem by
peaceful way too, while Thai troops continues to advance into Cambodian
territory from place to place, first to Keo Sikha Kiri Svara pagoda, to Ta Moan
temples and Veal Entry. So, he questioned who is the policy maker of Thailand?
He said Cambodia has to exercise its rights to defense its sovereignty and
territorial integrity and to self-defense when Thai open attack to Cambodian
first.

America calls Vietnam to restore Cambodia Independence . President Reagan's
address to the 43d Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York,
New York,September 26, 1988. "Mr. Secretary-General, there are new hopes for
Cambodia, a nation whose freedom and independence we seek just as avidly as we
sought the freedom and independence of Afghanistan. We urge the rapid removal
of all Vietnamese troops ...." As of today,Cambodia is still occupied by the
Vietnamese troops despite the call from the US president to Vietnam to cease
her occupation of Cambodia since 1988. Cambodia needs Independence from Vietnam
and the Vietnamese invaders. BURY
