If you looking for negative in any event to dwell for political reason
or whatever, you are going to find some. But some extremists forget the
fact or would like us to forget the fact without Jan 7th, probably none
of us are here today or there would be no second chance for Cambodia to
rise back up again. Again, some extremist people still think that
Cambodia is still under Vietnamese yoke, or Thai yoke. For me, the fact
we are here to have open-minded, and not so open-minded discussion about
Cambodia, Jan 7th, etc in Cambodia, Camdisc, grow old seeing our
children and grand children, are good enough reason that we should
remember and celebrate January 7th. So what Jan 7th 1979 was not
exactly the perfect day for Cambodia that we would like to have, so was
neither any other important event in Cambodian history. We had to ask
the French to conquered to save us from the Siam and Vietnamese in 18th
century. It was not exactly our proud moment but we are here and
Cambodia is still a state.

Most Khmer nationalists are full of pride but short on braincell, case
in point, heir Pol Pot and his followers, and the neo nationalist idiots
after them.
In art of war, Sun Tzu said if I fight I will win. He did not say I
fight because I am proud
He also said if you lose, you lose well, so you can fight another day.
There is nothing wrong in celebrating Jan 7th as a national liberation
day. It is the politicians and their supporters need to change their
attitude and priority putting the Country first , not their parties
and ideologies.
